FAQ

Q: What tools do I need to make my own adirondack chair?

A: You will need some basic tools to build your chair; A pencil or sharpie, chopsaw, handsaw, jigsaw, an electric drill and a sanding block will get you there! Up your game with a bandsaw, table saw and a drill press, and your efficiency and accuracy will skyrocket!

Q: What kind of materials do I need?

A: Our plans are tailored so that a complete chair can be made out of your standard 28x120mm (1"x5") decking boards. No odd sizes needed which would have had you run to the lumber yard for that one board. If you don't have the exact board sizes listed; don't worry! Our templates are also tailored so that all accuracy and assembly tolerance stack-ups lies within the hole patterns, and they will be just as accurate no matter what materials you use. For that quality look and feel, we recommend a minimum of 25mm (a full 1"!) thickness for all our adult adirondack chairs.

Q: How much material do I need?

A: This varies from product to product, and will be listed on the product page for your specific product.

Q: What type of fasteners do I need?

A: The fasteners you will need is printed directly onto your plans, and in the product page for your specific plans. The fasteners are specified with min./max. dimensions so that you will have as much freedom as possible to use hardware you have laying around. After all, we are all about upcycling!

Q: How long will it take me to build one chair?

A. Your first chair will take you about one full days work to complete. When you are up to speed and have figured out how to mass produce more chairs at a time, you are likely to get down to just three hours pr. chair, depending on how many chairs you are making at a time.

Q: Do I really need to glue all joints?

A: Yes, absolutely. Using glue is an essenital part of woodworking, and a solid piece of furniture which should last a lifetime is no exception. Top tip! If you think wood glue is a mess; try construction adhesive for outdoor use. It doesn't run, it's just as strong, and it's more forgiving!
